I’m not sure what happened to July and August, but suddenly I find myself at the eve of Labor Day weekend, with fall just a few short weeks away. How does time move so quickly? The zinnias and marigolds bordering my garden have come into full bloom, adding bright color to mornings that seem just a touch too cool yet. After all, we still have three more weeks of summer.

I harvested a tub of tomatoes this morning, both Amish Paste (great for fresh salsa, cooking, or canning) and Aunt Glee’s Big Pink Tomatoes. The latter come from seed passed down from my own great-great aunt, and they tend to be huge and perfect for slicing. Put them on your Labor Day burgers or just slap a slice between two pieces of bread slathered with mayo – either way, they burst with flavor.

You can also find fresh rosemary at the Broadway Community Market tomorrow, along with a recipe for rosemary scones, as well as green onions for picnic salads or sautéing. And don’t forget, every purchase you make at the market enters you into a weekly giveaway and the grand prize drawing!

Next Saturday, our final week of giveaways, is also the Broadway Autumn Festival and Antique Car Show! The market will be open for the entire duration of the event, 9am – 3pm.

See you at the market!

I will be back at the market this week with tomatoes, carrots, rosemary, and basil (mmm, pesto), as well as the usual handmade items: market and water bottle bags, dish cloths, and skillet handle covers.

The Broadway Community Market has had a back-to-school theme the past couple weeks, with one final day of the theme tomorrow. Coloring pages and crayons will be available on the picnic tables, so bring your kids for a fun morning at the market! The vendor New Moon Creations will be collecting donations of school supplies for John C. Myers Elementary School, and everyone who drops off items during the market tomorrow will be entered to win a free plant from her. Supplies needed:
